I was asked to put together a funny highs and lows for 2007<\/a> on NYC. Which is interesting, because I had never done that before and had to figure out how to make humor work. I actually kind of came up with a few methodologies, and consulted my friend, Rachel Axler, whose a writer for The Daily Show<\/a> (when they are writing that is).<\/p>\n

My favorites…<\/p>\n

Least graceful breakup announcement:<\/strong> A-Rod\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s free-agent declaration<\/a> during the fourth game of the World Series. (He ended up staying with the Yankees, after all<\/a>.)
\nMost graceful breakup announcement:<\/strong> Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s press release announcing his decision to leave the Republican Party<\/a> during a June trip to California.<\/p>\n

Most intrusive transportation initiative:<\/strong> Congestion pricing<\/a>.
\nLeast intrusive transportation initiative:<\/strong> Colorful flower decals<\/a> on the hoods of taxis.<\/p>\n

Most photogenic small animal:<\/strong> Lucky Lady<\/a>, the 7-month-old lamb found loose on the mean streets of the Bronx in June.
\nLeast photogenic small animal:<\/strong> The rats filmed at a KFC\/Taco Bell<\/a> in Greenwich Village in February.<\/p>\n

Widely noted acknowledgment of sexual identity:<\/strong> The announcement by J. K. Rowling, author of the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Harry Potter\u00e2\u20ac\u009d series, during a question-and-answer session at Carnegie Hall in October, that the fictional wizard Albus Dumbledore was gay<\/a>.
\nWidely noted denial of sexual identity:<\/strong> The statement by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran, who told an audience at Columbia University in September, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153In Iran, we don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have homosexuals like in your country.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/a><\/p>\n

Political phone call that shouldn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have gone to voice mail:<\/strong> The threatening phone message that the Republican political consultant Roger J. Stone Jr. is said to have left on the answering machine<\/a> of Governor Spitzer\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s father in August.
