I was in Beijing and I saw a mall called Chinatown — \u00e5\u201d\u0090\u00e4\u00ba\u00ba\u00e8\u00a1\u2014 (tangrenjie). \u00e5\u201d\u0090 refers to the Tang Dynasty, still considered the glory years in Chinese history. So Chinese people are sometimes referred to as \u00e5\u201d\u0090\u00e4\u00ba\u00ba, and \u00e8\u00a1\u2014 is street. So it’s Tang Person’s Street. There is no consistent name for Chinatown in Chinese.<\/a> In New York City, at Canal Street, the sign says \u00e5\u008d\u017d\u00e5\u0178\u00a0 (huabu)<\/p>\n
